Falk-Meeting 2008, Mainz

Seine Message: “Congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the LebensBlicke Foundation. Over the past 15 years we have seen a sharp decline in both incidence and mortality from colorectal cancer (CRC) in the United States.  Rates have been declining by about 3% per year.  Some of this decline is due to higher rates of CRC screening in the USA. We know that screening has the potential for detecting early stage cancer, but can also prevent cancer by detecting and removing pre-cancerous colon polyps.  Therefore, colorectal cancer provides a unique opportunity for screening of average-risk individuals to be a cancer prevention tool.  I strongly  support efforts in Germany and throughout Europe to increase rates of CRC screening, and applaud efforts in each country to develop methods of reaching out to the general population to encourage colorectal cancer screening.”
